Established back in 1995 by main man Patrick Howell, hailing from the UK’s Midlands, Masterbuilders have rarely fallen from noteworthy charts and play-lists the world over ever since. This is, of course, attributable to the collectives’ ease and proficiency with a broad array of musical genres, all of which share Masterbuilders profound understanding of inspiring, soulful song-writing and gritty, deep production ethics.
Future Licks EP is Masterbuilders first official release in 2 years and presents itself as one of their most distinguished releases to date, bringing together a truly world-class collection or remixers, new collaborators and illustrious vocalists, including Georgia Ann Muldrow (Stonesthrow). Future Licks EP boasts a selection of deep vibes to stimulate all moods and certainly rock any speaker system in any surrounding.
Can’t Stop (Benny Beatz Mix) opens the EP with a jolt, presenting itself as a colossal Urban Eclectic dance-floor pleaser, featuring an infectious lead vocal by the talented MX, complemented by a gratifyingly heavy and bouncing bass-line that instils a real urge to experience the cut on a big club system.
Broke (KM3 Mix) is an immense boogie tune featuring the adept vocals of LaSkeema, supported by none other than Stonethrow’s much revered ‘queen bee’, Georgia Ann Muldrow. KM3 backs-up this incredible talent with a superfluous Rhodes hook, floating over vinyl sampled drum hits and a very dope, ’eightiesesque’ analogue bassline.
Reworked by escalating producer, Christo, Never Never displays his signature ‘Detroitesque’ deepness and dirtiness. Bit-crushed pad rises are backed up by a sub bass-line that dances around the plodding kick, to superb late night / early morning effect.
The EP is so titled because all tracks will be released individually early next year together with further remixes. The release comes out on promo first of all on YoYoTrax (www.yoyotrax.com) on 30th November, an ethical, musician-orientated site set up by Patrick and partners. It then sees a full release through all good download stores from 2 January 2010. Do not miss out!
